Faith is passed down from generation to generation – it’s an unbroken line of ongoing faith in Jesus. The powers of the world wanted to break Jesus. Jesus died and it appeared the powers of the world prevailed. But we know that is not what happened. As we prepare for Easter this Lenten season, let us remember that faith in Jesus has prevailed for generations through all kinds of turmoil and strife. Let us seek and hold firm to faith in Jesus that will not and cannot be broken.
Faith is unbroken despite all the changes in the world – all the innovations. How? We have a living faith that worships a Living God – a Risen Savior. This year we will spend some time thinking deeply about what we really believe. What are the foundational beliefs? And how do they address the changing world? How do we stand firm in faith that addresses reality today?
The weekly themes come from the concept of a Living Catechism. As God’s beloved people, we are always discerning, always reforming, always leaning into what it means to be the people of God in each unique time and place. Our theme this year leads us to be faithful to the Christian Scriptures and be responsive to the unique realities of our time and place. Seven teachings emerge from the work of A Living Catechism. This Lent we will explore how these teachings guide us and deepen our faith today:
Maundy Thursday - God meets us in bread, wine and water.
Passion Sunday - God loves us eternally
